Summary
Senior product designer, eleven years in consumer banking then regulated B2B SaaS, simplifying complex, high-stakes financial products. I go into unfamiliar domains cold (payments, wealth, capital markets, healthcare) and turn data-heavy, multi-persona workflows into something people can actually use, then defend the simpler version to compliance, engineering and people who have done the job for twenty years. AI tools I’ve built for design work are at bytenielle.com/ai-lab.
Experience
-
FNZ London, UK
Jan 2025 - Present
Senior UX / Product Designer
- Sole designer on a configurable, regulated B2B wealth platform: 60+ screens across 8 product areas in 7 months, discovery to lo-fi and mid-fi, working with 6 product owners, SMEs and senior stakeholders across two organisations.
- Reduced 30+ user stories to four journeys on shared platform patterns, and landed two simplifications: messaging and notifications merged into one inbox, and a document vault replaced by upload on request.
- Built a Copilot agent that turns review notes into structured design documentation; a colleague used it on a live project and raised it with senior management. Brought AI-assisted prototyping (Figma Make, Claude) into my own delivery work.

Apr 2022 - Jan 2025
Senior UX Designer
- Led design on a novel in-house backtesting capability, 0-to-1 in eight weeks against a fixed deadline, so Strategic Indices clients could backtest inside the platform rather than in third-party tools. Shipped end 2022.
- Led end-to-end UX for a client Markets Feed, personalised from research subscriptions with tool recommendations, launched December 2023. Client testing found frequent users bypassed the homepage; I proposed a standalone feed and a feed-first surface for the next phase.
- Onboarded 83% of 300+ enterprise users onto the 2023 markets release, contributing to the reusable UX templates the wider team adopted.
-
Fishawack Health London, UK
Apr 2021 - Mar 2022
UX Designer
- Led UX across regulated healthcare products, turning research into design decisions and using usability testing and heuristic evaluations to settle stakeholder disagreement with evidence.
-
First National Bank Johannesburg, South Africa
Dec 2015 - Dec 2020
UX Designer
- Led payments UX across iOS, Android and web, defining the eight transactional journeys FNB’s established Capturer/Authoriser control required, so customers who also held personal accounts were not switching mental models. Rolled out countrywide over 23 months. Managed design pods and coached three junior designers.
- Designed InContact mobile approval for business banking, where it was not yet available despite being proven on personal accounts, so authorisers no longer had to be at a desk to approve a payment.
- Led the MyZone workstream in the Banking App (2019), moving branch compliance admin (FICA, personal details, documents) into self-service: 13 use cases designed, 8 areas live.
